How We’re Building a Feminist Future

Equal Pay and Opportunity
The Gender Pay Gap stands at 11.3%. Our 2024 Equal Pay report highlights how pay discrimination continues to be a major driver of inequality. We're calling for a comprehensive strategy to tackle the root causes of the gap, including the undervaluing of women’s work, a lack of affordable childcare, and the systemic barriers that prevent women from reaching their full potential.

Equal Representation
Women continue to be underrepresented in key decision-making spaces. However, the UK has made strides in women’s political representation with the highest ever proportion of women now in Parliament. Building on this momentum, in September 2024, Fawcett convened the first-ever women’s caucus in Parliament. The caucus brings together women politicians from across the political spectrum to drive forward women’s rights.

Equal Parenting and Caregiving
Affordable and accessible childcare is essential for gender equality. Fawcett has long campaigned on this as a core issue. Our recent two-part report - Transforming Early Childhood Education and Care - continues to shape conversations on reform. With your support behind us, we’ll continue to call for change makers to go further and commit to our 10-point plan to restructure early childhood education and care.

Equal Media Treatment
In 2023, for the first time ever, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) upheld a complaint on the basis of sexism. Our complaint against Jeremy Clarkson’s offensive and sexist article about Meghan Markle in The Sun ordered that the article be removed and for Clarkson to issue a public apology.

Equality in Health
The UK has the largest women’s health gap across all G20 countries. Working with Benenden Health, we created our Gender Health Gap research that highlights the deep inequalities women face in accessing healthcare. Our research offers clear solutions for the government and employers to build a better system for women and close the Gender Health Gap.
