About our events AGM 6pm - 7pm- This is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on our achievements over the past year, celebrate our victories, and engage with the community of passionate individuals committed to gender equality. During the AGM, you'll hear from Fawcett CEO Jemima Olchawski and Baroness Harriet Harman in our Year in Review presentation, and see the live results of our trustee elections, helping shape Fawcett's strategic direction. Fawcett Talks 7pm - 8pm Immediately following the AGM we bring you Fawcett Talks featuring author and Professor Laura Beers.and chaired by Alesha De Freitas. We'll explore the impact of the US election result on women in the UK and what it tells us about misogyny in public life. Whether its exploring gendered political discourse, comparisons across government policies, protecting women's rights and more, we will dive into the ripple effects of the new Government at Washington through a Feminist lens. This online, member-exclusive event provides an excellent platform for you to join the conversation, participate in a lively Q&A session, and connect with fellow members dedicated to advancing equality. About our Fawcett Talks speakers Laura Beers is a professor of British history at American University and the author of Orwell's Ghosts: Wisdom and Warnings for the Twenty-First Century, Your Britain: Media and the Making of the Labour Party, and Red Ellen: The Life of Ellen Wilkinson, Socialist, Feminist, Internationalist, which received the 2017 Stansky Prize. Her writing has appeared in the New Republic, the New Statesman and Washington Post, among other publications, and on CNN.com, and she comments regularly for the BBC. She lives in Washington, DC. Alesha De- Freitas is Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy at Fawcett Society Alesha's background is in economic, regulatory and trade policy. Prior to joining Fawcett, she worked in the Civil Service for 15 years, most recently in the Department for Business as Deputy Director for Competition Policy. In 2017, Alesha was awarded an MBE for services to the digital single market. She has been a school governor in East London for over 10 years and is a champion for inclusive education.
