Fawcett East London: Who We Are

East London has a long and proud history of feminist activism - from the suffragettes to today’s changemakers working to build a fairer world. Founded in 2016, Fawcett East London (FEL) is a volunteer-driven group to connect local feminists who are passionate about change.

We provide a space to learn, share perspectives, and find inspiration for a feminist future. Whether we’re debating the issues facing women and girls or taking action to make an impact, we do it together.

One of our proudest achievements is founding the End Salary History campaign, and we remain committed to pushing for lasting, meaningful change in our community and beyond. As a local chapter of the Fawcett Society, we work in partnership with the national office to build a society where women and girls, in all our diversity, are truly free and equal.

Our history

Millicent Fawcett began campaigning for women’s equality in 1866, and was instrumental in achieving first votes for women in 1918. At The Fawcett Society, we’ve continued her legacy of fighting sexism through impactful research and hard-hitting campaigns for over 155 years.
